Matthew Lopez, Intern
There is no wrong reason to seek counseling, and all are welcome here, no matter your background. I look forward to supporting anyone who wants to learn and grow.
After graduating from Colorado College in 2014, I spent around 11 years working in education and the corporate world before finding my calling in mental health. I am currently a Clinical Mental Health Counseling intern at Roots to Ground, and I'm passionate about creating a space where you can show up authentically.
My approach centers on Cognitive Therapy with motivational interviewing skills woven throughout our work together. What does that mean for you? We'll collaborate to identify, challenge, and replace the dysfunctional automatic thoughts, cognitive distortions, and underlying core beliefs that may be holding you back. From there, we'll develop meaningful goals to create the change you're seeking and increase your overall wellness.
I have a particular passion for working with LGBTQ+ individuals, those navigating religious trauma, and BIPOC clients. Your experiences matter, your story matters, and I'm here to walk alongside you on your journey toward healing and growth.
If you're ready to take this step, I'd love to hear from you.
